A reader named Emily sent me a suggestion for a new bit of fun for the holidays and I've decided to try it out. We're doing a blog-wide Secret Santa (a general holiday swap for everyone celebrating whatever they're celebrating). The idea is that readers who want to participate will send out a gift to a stranger (I'll provide the address) and they'll get a gift from a different stranger in return.
I admit, I was a little nervous about the idea at first, just because I can't police it that well. If someone sends something out, but doesn't get a gift themselves, there's not much I can do besides send out an inquiry email. I also can't do anything about gifts lost in the mail, etc. That being said, I've done these before with people online (Disney brides and others) and I've never run into that problem. In fact, it's always been a ton of fun!
So, here are the official rules:
(1) To enter, fill out the entry form below. If you enter, you are agreeing to send a holiday gift (valued at no more than $25) to the person/address that I will provide once the swap gets started. If for some reason you enter and then find yourself unable to participate, you can let me know ASAP, but I'd rather you only join in if you're really committed. I'd hate to see someone disappointed because they're left without a gift.
(2) I will not use your address for anything besides this swap, unless I decide to send you a holiday card. No promises there, though, since I tell myself every year that I'm doing holiday cards and every year I don't think about it until Christmas Eve. That being said, I won't sell your address or do anything weird with it.
(3) I'll take entries for the Secret Santa until 12/4 and I'll try to send out names/addresses on 12/5. We'll use Christmas as our target gift day, so try to put something in the mail soon enough to get it there before 12/25. If you're running late for some reason, let me know and I'll put a message through to your intended recipient so they don't get worried.
(4) Anyone can participate. You do not have to be a Disney bride or someone who celebrates Christmas, etc. However, if you are not located in the United States, I will likely only match you with someone else who is in your same general area. If you're in a location that could be expensive to mail to/from, I can't promise that I'll be able to match you up.
(5) As an optional bit of extra fun, I'd love it if people could take pictures of the packages they receive and send them to me. I'll do a big photo post of Secret Santa gifts after 12/25 so we can all enjoy them.
(6) I won't be joining in, just because I don't want to put anyone on the spot (since I'd know who my Secret Santa is). That being said, I've already received address requests from a couple brides who are planning on sending me their holiday cards, which I love. If you'd like to pop a card in the mail and make my day, here's my address:
The Disney Wedding Blog
PO Box 17303
Salt Lake City, UT 84117
(7) Thanks, have fun, and happy holidays!
Official Entry Form:
I know that I filled out the form late, but I just got back in town so if there's any way to still participate, I'd love it!
